History

Alpha Gamma at the University of Oklahoma

Alpha Gamma is the 27th chapter of Pi Kappa Phi, chartered at the University of Oklahoma in 1923. The chapter has closed three times and come back three times. It was active from 1923 to 1938, from 1971 to 1984, and from 1988 to 2007, and it has been active again since 2011. In both the 1971 and the 1988 periods its house was at 1714 Chautauqua Avenue. The century has not been unbroken, and we would rather say so than round it off.

The national fraternity

Pi Kappa Phi was founded in 1904

Pi Kappa Phi was founded at the College of Charleston in South Carolina by three students, Andrew Kroeg, Lawrence Mixson, and Simon Fogarty. The fraternity states its purpose as developing men who put service before self, which is the reason it runs its own philanthropy rather than lending its name to an outside one. Alpha Gamma is one of its chapters and is held to those standards.
